The misuse of power by Governor Berkley was the main cause for Nathaniel Bacon and his followers to rebel.

1. Introduction: in this single paragraph I will keep myself to paraphrasing the basis of the they say and inserting my thesis for the I say
2. Indians:
a. The first paragraph in this section will summarize the discussion, or “they say” going on about government with some quotes and paraphrasing. This will;
i. Include the reason it started as shown in Doc 2 by the Royal Commissioners
ii. Include what the Indians were doing as told by Doc 5 and Bacon’s declaration
iii. Include Bacon’s views on what they did from Bacon’s Declaration and Doc 4 by the Royal Commissioners, and Doc 14
iv. Include talk of forts from Doc 6 and Doc 10 From the Royal Commissioners Narrative
b. The second part will be the “I say” part and will:
i. State my opinion that the Governor misused his power by not creating an effective defense plan or countermeasure against the Indians.
ii. Support with evidence from the “they say” section
3. Economy
a. The first paragraph will discuss taxes, allocation of public funds, and other things drawing upon Bacon’s Declaration, Doc 1 by Robert Beverly, Doc 10 from Royal Commissioners Narrative, and Doc 12 from Nathaniel Bacon
b. The second part will discuss how this displeased the general population referring back to part 1 for reference
4. Political Power
a. This will draw upon the other two sections and Documents 35 and 39 to suggest that Berkley’s show of power throughout the kingdom posed a perfect example for anyone wishing to obtain power, and then will go on to suggest that this was likely Nathaniel Bacon’s underlying reason for leading the cause.
5. This will conclude by restating my thesis, then going on to suggest that if Berkley had been selflessly managing the colony and earnestly listened to the citizens woes, the rebellion would never have happened.
