1. I believe that this quote is an over simplification. Power will definitely invest in a body, however, power will not always torture a body, nor force it to preform ceremonies, except in the more abstract sense of the word.
2. This quote is basically saying that a body is only useful if it can produce something and is being forced to do so. I disagree with this because a body may only be useful if it is producing something, but it will always be able to do so of it's own free will.
